Joseph Vandor SDB, (born as: József Wech, known too as Vándor József, José Vandor, Wech József, Father Puchner) was a Hungarian Catholic Salesian priest, missionary and Venerable
* 29 October 1909, Dorog (Komárom-Esztergom County, Austria-Hungary; today: Hungary) † 8 October 1979, Santa Clara (Cuba, America).
== Life ==
Father Vandor was born as József Wech in Dorog, Austro-Hungary, October 29, 1909. His parents were German natives farmers Sebastian Wech and Maria Puchner. Baptism received the sme year October 31, Confirmation however received in Dorog 23 May 1920.
1932. He made his perpetual profession as a Son of Don Bosco on August 13, 1932 in Péliföldszentkereszt in Hungary. In Turin in Italy he studied Theology and was ordained a priest there, in the Basilica of Our Lady Help of Christians, Turin on July 5, 1936.
He asked for missions and his superiors sent him in Central America. After ordination 1936 he was sent to Cuba, to Guanabacoa. On becoming a Cuban national, he changed his name from Wech to Vandor.〔(ハンガリー語:Vándor), (ドイツ語:Wanderer), means (英語:Traveler)〕 He was there as headmaster and chaplain until 1940, when he became rector of the Agricultural School in Moca in the Dominican Republic.
He was known for his wisdom and prudence and so was chosen as Magister of Novices. In 1946 became administrator to the College of Arts and Trades in Camagüey on Cuba.
On December 9, 1954 he was put in charge of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Santa Clara. He was appointed to oversee the building of the school of Arts and Trades. When the school opened, Joseph Vandor was appointed rector, a post he held until 1961, when came to power Communism and schools passed into the hands of the Minister for Education. He was named rector of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
